Madhu, actually matris are almost never made with raw mangoes in it. The dough usually contains maida, salt, carom seeds, oil and water. Biscuit-like shapes are made out of the dough and deep fried. Its a snack commonly had with tea in North-India.

Well, search results take me back to Gujarati cuisine. I think its their staple food or matri probably originated from there.

I have not come across Matris before, so it’s totally new to me. It looks very good and cute. Are matris traditionally made with mangoes?

Actually I used a cookie cutter to cut out the shapes. Kids love to eat their food in different shapes and I thought my baby (and I) could use a change from the standard round
