Hi Bhunu,

Its a good question. Thanks for bringing this up.

Broken wheat is high in fiber. Hence it gives you a sense of fullness on eating a smaller quantity. Moreover, the stomach will have to work more to digest it leading to burning of more calories.

Here is another link that recommends eating high-fiber foods like broken wheat for weight loss :

http://food.sify.com/fullstory.php?id=14522774

All high calorie foods are not bad for the body. In fact all calories are not even the same. If you eat a cup of chikoo fruit you take in as many calories as 3 teaspoons of Ghee. Yet, its better you eat the fruit than the ghee. Thats because hi-fiber food is good for the body and the nutrition received post absorption aids metabolism and active functioning of the body.

Hi,

I saw sites mentioning high calorie value for broken wheat . Why is that ?

Even i assumed this has less cal when compared to rice and was about to try but was disappointed seeing the calorie count

The following site mentions Broken wheat has 527 cal
http://info.curryleaves.com/Indianingredients.htm

http://www.tarladalal.com/FastFoodCalorie.asp

Let me know your comments on this.

Thanks guys. Do let me know if it works for you too. Eating broken wheat at night instead of rice works wonders for health as the fiber pulls out the dirt inside our stomach and throws it out.

Madhu, I also didnt know about Sprouted Dalia. Got to know from my neighbor who used to give it to her one year old son. It sounds like a good option. Will probably try it next time.

Asha, thanks so much. Hugs to you too :)

Rajani, my daughter is 1 year 4 months old. The post-natal diet is also something I have been wanting to categorize on the blog. It will really help pregnant ladies to find a diet chart that can help them eat nutritious and lose weight at the same time, post delivery.

Hi Roma, I love dalia!! of all the things!! and its been ages since I had it! think I am going to get a packet. how old is your baby now? you know after my daughter wasborn I lost 10 kilos in the first month.my mom had put me on a breasfeeding mum's diet of green leaves, legumes, fenugreek, wheat, onions, fruits and garlic (but no ghee)... all stuff great for mother's milk as well as I suppose losing weight. You know I initially planned to put a lot of baby food etc... motherhood stuff on my blog - cos I was really looking out for recipes earlier and couldnt find much on the net especially catering to indian mothers. i love the fact that you're categorising and yes you are inspiring me to put down my experiences as well!!!!! great job there.
