Banana Icecream with Biscuit Fudge

icecream

Yes! I saved two bananas. They were very ripe and were fast approaching their expiry when I decided to use them up. Usually I make  banana cakes or Deep fried Dumplings (Gulgule) when I find very ripe bananas lying in my kitchen. However this time I wanted to try something different so I decided to go with Banana Icecream. It was simple and easy to make, not to mention the difference in taste and price as compared to the store bought ones. Finally I made them! Thanks to my sister who baked cookies and inspired me to follow suit. My niece goes to this fun activity center called Hippocampus. I personally love the idea of involving kids in cooking as it encourages them to eat better and also serves as a good distraction for mommy and baby.

I particularly liked Tarla Dalal’s ideas for Low-Fat paneer and Khoya that can easily be made at home. Low fat khoya is made by steamed a dough of skimmed milk and water. This dough is then mashed and flavored with sugar and essence of choice. I wanted to immediately put this idea into action but I didnt have enough skimmed milk so I used the badam milk powder that had been chilling in my fridge for way too long.

Navratri this year

Posted by Roma On October - 1 - 2009

Just back from a 10 day vacation at Bombay. Visited my parents-in-law for the navratri week. We had a Garba night at our apartment just before we left for the trip. Here is a snippet. Its a Gujarati number ‘Nadi Kinare’. Actually, I didnt really understand the lyrics but thoroughly enjoyed dancing to it. There is one thing I now know – Just a 3 minute Garba can tire you as much as 15 mins on a tread mill. Its only when I attempt something like this that I realize I’m getting old :)
