I must thank Lakshmi of Taste of Mysore for introducing me to the concept of making comics. I enjoyed making my own story, moreover the tool was user friendly making it easy to create my own comic strip. This is my entry to Comic Cooking with Brinjals hosted by Lakshmi.

Sweet n Sour Flavors of Life

Posted by Roma On June - 4 - 2008

Click is one of the most awaited events of the month. The round-up presents us with a magnificent array of pictures one can possibly capture in a lense. I loved the idea of clicking pictures based on a color.

Yellow is the brightest of all colors. According to color therapy in the pyschology of colors, yellow stands for serenity. Yellow reflects light in all directions thereby creating an impression of detachment and liberation. It cancels out feelings of heaviness or oppression.

From the time I started mentally creating my snap, my eyes would just hunt for ingredients, fruits, veggies, anything thats yellow. I went shopping yesterday and picked up whatever seemed to looked happy like the sunshine. I realised that shopping was easier than assembling them. I started removing items from the list that didnt quite fit in.

Finally, the picture contains only whatever got together to represent the ups and downs in life. The Sweet lime stands for the happiness in life and the little lime for the bitterness one experiences. The mangoes by the side are a combination of sweet and sour. All in all, the flavors of life!

This one is for you Bri. I’m praying for your speedy recovery. This is my entry to click ‘Yellow for Bri‘ hosted by Jugalbandi.

Basking Under the Summer Sun (for Click Au Naturel)

Posted by Roma On April - 25 - 2008

I love clicking snaps of things that I want to keep in my memory forever. Like John Keats said ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’!

I remember seeing these saplings in the garden of my apartment complex and wondering what they were. Within a few weeks the plant developed indentations clearly indicating that it was Wheat, most probably planted by accident. Guess someone might have thrown a little bit of whole wheat and the plant picked up.

Every evening when I went down to the garden I thought I must take a picture of the plant as it was growing up fast. One day I took a camera along and caught the wheat plant swaying in the breeze, basking under the summer sun. I find this picture particularly soothing. It kind of reminds you that a happy mind breezes through life effortlessly.

This is my entry to Click Au Naturel event hosted by Jai & Bee.

Ugadi Special Lunch

Posted by Roma On April - 7 - 2008

Ugadi is not really one of our festivals but since we have been in South India like forever, we have been influenced by the culture to some extent. We make a Special Ugadi Lunch every year to enjoy the festive spirit that surrounds us.

Typically in Karnataka they prepare Vobattu (jaggery rotis), thondekai sabzi, beans, kosumbari / salad, sambar and payasam today. I am unable to make the entire menu but do manage to make a few items here and there to feel like we have celebrated the day.

In the picture above you can see :

  • Drumsticks and Mooli Sambar
  • Tamarind rice
  • Plain steamed rice
  • Garlic papad
  • Cucumber Kosumbari
  • Beans sabzi
  • Rice Payasam

Happy Ugadi to you all !!
